The Washington Association of School Principals (AWSP) is recognizing Principal Dave Vetter as a nominee for the Washington State "Middle Level Principal of the Year" for 2015/2016. The final award recipient will be announced in March, with all nominees being recognized at the AWSP summer conference.

According to the AWSP announcement, Mr. Vetter is being recognized for the contributions he has made to the school, students and community. The letter further stated that these contributions "are noteworthy and deserving of recognition. The responsibilities of principals are many and significant, but too often go unrecognized."

Good job, Mr. Vetter!

The Raymond High School Band has been selected as a semi-finalist for a GRAMMY Signature award. There are a total of 50 high schools in the country that have been identified as semi-finalists. The award is designed to honor "exceptional public high school music programs across the country" with cash awards up to $6,000.

The winners will be announced in April.

Go Gulls!

This 8-minute video gives some good insights into the modern school system. Of course our state's schools aren't perfect, but Raymond School District is proud to be a part of a system that has so many good things going on.

The end of October was a busy time. Throughout the month, students were focusing on responsibility. Our monthly character trait has been a great way to teach the whole child. Concluding the month was our awards assembly, Character Luncheon and Big Deal Celebration. While at Slater’s Diner, students even had a photo opportunity that made the front page of the paper! October 30th was filled with costumes, dancing, and laughter. It was great seeing staff and students blowing off the steam after a long month’s work.

The Elementary Music Concernt will be Wednesday, 18 November at 6:30 p.m. in the RHS gym. The end of our first trimester will be Thursday, November 19th. Report cards will be going home with students on the half-day before Thanksgiving Break, November 25th. Then, we will be making the most of our busy, short December. PTO’s annual Holiday Store will kick off on November 14th and run through the final week before winter break. This has always been a staff and student favorite. The PTO would greatly appreciate any new or gently used donations to help stock the store. As always, the store couldn’t be a success without the help of our awesome volunteers. Please contact the school if you are willing to help.

It seems like we just started the school year, yet the holiday season it upon us. At this time of year, keeping students’ attention on their studies can be a daunting, yet important task. Help your student be at their best by making sure they get their rest, pace themselves as they consider the abundance of activities this time of year, and helping them maintain a focus on their studies.

This past week RHS ASB students were joined by the Leadership Group from Raymond Elementary to welcome and thank our Veterans. The ASB made and served a lunch to a packed room of appreciative Veterans and the kids truly enjoyed sitting down and talking with those who have sacrificed for our country.

We have several upcoming activities to consider. Raymond Jr/Sr High School is kicking off a Food Bowl along with South Bend and Valley!  We also have Thanksgiving, which will be kicked off with an early release Wednesday, Nov. 25.  Wednesday, December 2, is also an early release day for a staff day. Finally, the Jr/Sr High School Winter Music Program will be help Dec. 16 and the last day of school before Winter Break is Friday, the 18th.  Students will be released at the normal time that day.

Parents may also contact Mrs. Webber, RHS Guidance Counselor for further information.
